3 Players Sunrisers Hyderabad shouldn’t have released for IPL 2024 Auction

SRH players released

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction is set to occur at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19. Teams will operate with a budget of Rs. 100 crores, up from the previous year’s Rs. 95 crores. This auction also marks the concluding year of the three-year contract for each player, with a mega-auction anticipated for the following year.

Despite assembling a decent team in the IPL 2023 mega auction Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have faced challenges, particularly with the inconsistency of their renowned bowling. Despite adding notable batting stars, the team struggled to secure a playoff spot due to the batters’ inconsistent performance in the previous edition of the IPL.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the team management aims for a resurgence, relying on a balanced blend of youth and experience to unleash the squad’s full potential and establish themselves as a formidable force in the league. But with the team leaving out six players ahead of the Mini Auction there were three major surprising releases from the franchise. Let us look at three names;

#1. Akeal Hosein

The inclusion of left-arm orthodox is necessary for any team given modern-era cricket. A player like Akeal Hosein is certainly a boon for any team given his ability with bat as well as ball. Along with that, his presence in the field is also immense. In 121 appearances, Hosein has taken 99 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 6.74 runs per over. In his T20I career spanning 39 matches, he has claimed 31 wickets, boasting a best figure of 4/30 and an economy rate of 7.22 runs per over, showcasing his ability to handle T20 pressure effectively.

#2. Kartik Tyagi

An Indian pacer is something that all the teams thrive for in IPL. One such emerging pacer is Kartik Tyagi who showed promise after the 2018 U-19 World Cup. After a stint with the Rajasthan Royals, he moved to SunRisers Hyderabad but struggled with limited opportunities, trailing in the pecking order behind other bowlers.

The 23-year-old currently has a chance of a fresh start as he has attracted attention after a successful Vijay Hazare campaign. Considered one of the top uncapped Indian pacers, he set a modest base price of? 20 lakh for the auction, indicating confidence and a willingness to play it safe in the upcoming bidding process.

#3. Harry Brook

With a remarkable Test average of 62.15, Harry Brook has showcased versatility as a batter, excelling in defence, attack, and anchoring innings effortlessly. Drafted by Sunrisers for INR 13.25 crore in the last IPL edition, he had a promising start, scoring a century, but his performance dwindled, accumulating only 190 runs by season’s end.

In T20 cricket, the star England batter has amassed 2982 runs at 33.50 and a stellar strike rate of 149.62, Brook’s potential is evident. However, the franchise’s significant investment did not align with his season performance. It suggests a potential move to a team in need of a strong batsman, as Brook’s IPL journey seems influenced more by management decisions than his cricketing prowess.
