Published on

The Women’s Premier League(WPL)  2024 is just 11 days away from starting the matches which are happening in Bangalore and Delhi. The last season had a terrific response from the people who witnessed some great players in the League. The hype will be the same and the stage is set for the commencement of the tournament. The auction includes some of the most popular women cricketers in the world who can still give us great performances. After a historic first step into the season, we are going into the second step where the expectations will be high this time.

We all know that T20 is a batter’s game where we will witness a lot of big hits. However, we cannot forget the contributions of the players with the ball as well. There will be a lot of top bowlers in the tournament who are capable of taking wickets or breaking through some of the best batting lineups in the tournament. These women are the ones who are trusted to change the game and take wickets and they will be ready for the challenge. We know the likes of Smriti Mandhana and Meg Lanning will be dangerous, but these bowlers will not let them get away easily.

So, here’s a look at the top 3 bowlers to watch out for in WPL 2024:

  1. Issy Wong

Issy Wong was one of the biggest success stories in the WPL 2023 that took the tournament by storm. Wong was one of the highest wicket-takers for Mumbai Indians women with 15 wickets in the tournament. The 21-year-old pacer surprised everyone with her pace and accuracy in the tournament. She has also gone on to have a decent start to her international career as well. It will be interesting to see what Wong will have in store for the upcoming tournament as well. She was one of the young sensations earlier and will be one of the bowlers to look out for in the upcoming tournament as well.

  1. Shabnim Ismail

Shabnim Ismail might be one of the oldest players in the league being 35 years old and retired from international cricket. However, this does not mean that she will not have the same class and talent which she had in the past. Ismail did not feature a lot in the last season but will want to prove herself in the Mumbai franchise this season. She has taken 123 wickets in T20I’s and will be a bowler who could be a threat to any batter in the tournament. MI women will hope that her experience and art of seam bowling can help them while defending their title this season.

1. Sophie Ecclestone

Sophie Ecclestone is one of the top-ranked bowlers in international cricket right now and she is currently on a roll. Her last season with the UP Warriorz was amazing, where she was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the league. The 24-year-old left-arm spinner was one of the key players for her franchise with her subtle variations. Ecclestone will be up for the challenge once again and this time will want something better than just a top-four finish. She can be a nightmare to any batter in the middle overs where she really comes into her element and takes wickets in regular intervals.
