Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has said that he likes the leadership qualities that Shreyas Iyer possesses. However, Scott suggested that the Indian batter has to find a way out of his weakness. He said that Shreyas has to find a way to tackle short balls and has to work on this regard.

Shreyas has been through a tough time right after the series against Sri Lanka. The former New Zealand all-rounder said that Shreyas is on the same level as Raina when it comes to facing short balls.

“He’s almost a little bit like Suresh Raina in that regard where teams now know how to attack him. It’s now up to Shreyas Iyer to find a way to succeed against that style of bowling. If he can do that, then I think he’s one of the first names you write down in that Indian side,” Scott said. “I really do like all the qualities about him, but until then, I think you’ve just got to give him opportunities, and if he can’t find success, then you need to find someone else who can, but he’s very talented,” he added.

The New Zealand cricketer said to Sports18 that Iyer must be given enough opportunities before an alternative is found. He said that he admires the leadership quality that the star all-rounder possesses however suggested that he has to find a way to come out of the mud.

“What I don’t like, the negative if you like, is that there is no secret about Shreyas. He has real problems with the short ball. I think you’ll see a lot of teams attack him with the quick bowlers look to attack the body with the bouncer, go under the armpit if you like because I’m not sure he is found a way,” Styris added.

Shreyas Iyer is known for his ability to tackle spinners. However, in recent times, Shreyas has found it incredibly difficult to overcome his weakness. Fans and as well as him would be hoping that he tackles short balls well in the upcoming series against West Indies.
