During the game between Manchester United and Liverpool at Anfield in Liverpool, fans from both teams showed solidarity with Cristiano Ronaldo after his son’s death. Ronaldo, who was meant to play the game, decided to miss out for the same reason. The Manchester fans started singing ‘You will never walk alone’ in the seventh minute of the game. Notably, the star footballer dons the number seven jersey for whichever team he plays.

Talking about the song, it was also sung by the Liverpool fans during the game. The videos have gone viral on the internet. The game was won by Liverpool by 4-0. After the game, Ronaldo’s family thanked Liverpool fans for their support. Ronaldo’s Madeira-based sister Elma wrote on social media: “Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today. Another sibling Katia from Brazil wrote: “Way beyond football”.

Talking about his son’s untimely demise, his partner Georgina Rodríguez gave birth to twins. Unfortunately, the baby boy couldn’t survive. The couple took to Twitter and informed their fans and well-wishers about the tragedy. They requested the fans for privacy during the time of grief. They added that their new-born daughter gives them the strength to live through this phase. “It is with the deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” read a statement from Ronaldo and his wife.

“It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” it added. “We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time,” the message further said.

“Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you,” concluded the statement.
