West Indies vs India 2023
‘Ye Windies ko fightback karna aata hai?’ – Fans react as West Indies end Day 2 on high after dominating display by India
West Indies had a decent day altogether after they dismissed India for 438 in the first innings.
At the start of Day 2 of the second test between, Virat Kohli as well as Ravindra Jadeja finally accomplished in surpassing the benchmarks. Kohli’s 29th century made him the first cricketer to score a century in his 500th international match and Jadeja recorded his 19th Test half-century. By the time Kohli was run out on 121 after 206 balls, their partnership had contributed 159 runs and had sucked the life out of the West Indies bowlers.
Even after Jadeja was eventually dismissed for 61 off 152, India maintained their superiority. Ravichandran Ashwin replaced him and continued his outstanding batting record versus the West Indies. With a score of 56 off 78, Ashwin was the last player to be dismissed, ending both the second session and the Indian innings. For a massive total of 438, the visitors were bowled out and were now looking to rack up a few wickets before the close of play. It would have been a difficult task since the wicket was still flat but with a quality bowling line-up, anything was possible.
West Indies show patience against India’s bowling
The West Indies then started off to an attritional opening thanks to their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite as well as Tagenarine Chanderpaul, assuring they were not to lose any wicket for most of the session. However, the latter was ultimately removed by Ravindra Jadeja, and as a result, rookie Kirk McKenzie had to come out to bat for the later stages of the day.
But that did not seem to be of any bother to him or his team as he recorded a smooth start to his inning. The West Indies finished their day on 86/1, 352 runs behind India. There is still a long way to go for the West Indies side if they ought to give some fight back to the Indian team for the first time in this series. They would be looking to make huge partnerships and ensure that the batters settle themselves in the crease and do not resort to poor shot selection.
The Indian team would be banking on their spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to power them and scalp wickets at regular intervals. Day three can potentially decide which way this test match is headed and whether or not, it will be another simple win for the Indians.
