‘Ye saare angrez MI ko loot hi rahe hai’ – Fans react as LSG beat MI by 5 runs at Ekana Stadium in IPL 2023

LSG vs MI

In the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Lucknow Super Giants beat Mumbai Indians by 5 runs at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday. Riding on amazing batting performance from Marcus Stoinis, LSG posted a hefty total of 177/3 in 20 overs and MI fell short of the target despite getting a great start.

Earlier, after winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first on a slow pitch. His decision went well with the team as Jason Behrendroff clinched two wickets in an over to derail LSG’s batting line-up. He dismissed Deepak Hooda and Prerak Mankad on consecutive deliveries. After that, ace spinner Piyush Chawla also removed Quinton de Kock soon and left LSG crumbling at 35-3 after 6.1 overs.

However, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya along with Marcus Stoinis changed the fate of his team as both added 82 runs for the fourth wicket before Pandya went back due to an injury. Krunal scored 49 runs off 42 balls with the help of a boundary and a six. Meanwhile, Stoinis in his unbeaten innings smacked 89 runs off just 47 balls with the help of four boundaries and eight maximums.

The middle order failed Mumbai Indians in a crucial game

Chasing 178 runs on a slow pitch, MI got a flying start. Opener Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma added 90 runs for the first wicket. Rohit scored 37 runs off 25 balls with the help of a boundary and three sixes. He was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi, who also dismissed Kishan in the very next over. Kishan scored a brilliant half-century as he smacked 59 runs off 39 balls with the help of eight boundaries and a six.

After their dismissal, MI’s middle order started crumbling in the absence of Tilak Verma as Nehal Wadhera, Suryakumar Yadav and Vishnu Vinod failed to capitalise on the opportunity. However in the end, Tim David helped MI to get closer to the target as he scored 30 runs off 18 balls with the help of three sixes and a boundary. However, in the end, Mohsin Khan defended 11 runs off the last over and clinched the game for LSG.
