‘Ye phir se humara sapna na tod de’ – Fans react as New Zealand continue their dominance in ODI World Cup 2023, beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets
Chasing a tricky total, New Zealand got off to a shaky start as opener Rachin Ravindra failed to make an impact.
In the 11th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets. With contributions from almost every player, the Kiwis continue their winning run in the tournament. They outplayed Bangladesh in all three departments and won the game convincingly. Meanwhile, this victory is more special for the team as it came under Kane Williamson’s captaincy, who made a comeback after six months.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Williamson opted to field first. His decision did go well with the team, as pacer Trent Boult dismissed Litton Das for a golden duck. Soon, Bangladesh lost the plot as their top order failed to face the Kiwi pacers. The team lost four wickets for just 56 runs and was looking at the backfoot. However, skipper Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim added 95 runs for the fifth wicket.
Shakib, in his innings, scored 40 runs off 51 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Rahim, in his innings, scored 66 runs off 75 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes. After their departure, Mahmudullah’s quick 41 helped Bangladesh post a competitive total of 245/9 in 50 overs. New Zealand pacer Pacer Lockie Ferguson clinched three wickets, while Matt Henry and Trent Boult got two wickets.

After his departure, Williamson and Daryl Mitchell added 108 runs before Williamson retired. Williamson, in his comeback inning, scored 78 runs off 107 balls with the help of eight fours and a six. On the other hand, Mitchell, in his inning, scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 67 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes.
