ODI World Cup 2023
‘Ye kounsi dawai thi jo 99% hi thik hua’ – Fans react as India skipper Rohit Sharma drops update on Shubman Gill’s availability for Pakistan match
According to Rohit, Gill will likely play against Pakistan in the upcoming ODI World Cup game.
After two back-to-back victories against Australia and Afghanistan, hosts India are set to face arch-rival Pakistan at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14. Ahead of the prestigious game, India skipper Rohit Sharma spoke about the availability of star batter Shubman Gill. Rohit spoke about Gill’s illness and availability in his latest press conference.
According to Rohit, Gill will likely play against Pakistan in the upcoming ODI World Cup game. The Indian skipper revealed that Gill is almost match-fit and will participate in a high-voltage game. It’s worth noting that he missed the first two games of the tournament due to illness.
Speaking to the media a day before the marquee clash, India skipper Rohit Sharma said Gill is 99% fit and available for the game. “There’s a 99 per cent chance he (Gill) will play. We’ll make the final call tomorrow (Saturday).” It’s worth noting that last Sunday Gill was hospitalised in Chennai due to dengue fever. However, he was soon discharged and flown to Ahmedabad.
Will Ravichandran Ashwin play against Pakistan?
Further speaking about his team combinations against Pakistan, Rohit revealed that he will make decisions after taking a look at the pitch. He said, “I don’t know. I haven’t had a look at the pitch yet. If the requirement is there, players are ready to step up.” It’s worth noting that India called Ravichandran Ashwin as a backup for Axar Patel in the prestigious tournament.
Ashwin played his first match against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. However, he had to sit out during India’s clash with Afghanistan as team management included Shardul Thakur at the pacer-friendly wicket. Meanwhile, India will be looking to continue their winning run against Pakistan in the prestigious tournament. They have won all seven games against arch-rivals in the history of the ODI World Cup.

So it will be interesting to see who will be dropped from team tomorrow. Most likely Iyer will not play as he has not performed and was given chances. Gill as an opener is destrucitive as compared to Kishan bcz he is technically solid batter
