‘Ye kaam toh India bhi nahi kar paayi’ – Fans react to Afghanistan creating history by winning ODI series against Bangladesh
Afghanistan became just the second team to win a series against Bangladesh in the last eight years
In the second one-day international, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 142 runs to win the series. Opening batsmen Rahmanullah Gurbaz, as well as Ibrahim Zadran, scored hundreds.
Gurbaz scored a career-high 145 runs off 125 balls, including 13 fours and 8 sixes, and Zadran scored exactly 100 runs. This opening stand of 256 runs was the biggest partnership for a single wicket in Afghanistan’s history. Afghanistan put up 331-9, the team’s highest total versus Bangladesh and third-highest total in its history, after losing nine wickets for 75 runs following that partnership, which eclipsed their previous best of 218 versus Scotland back in 2010.
Ebadbot Hossain was unable to bat owing to a muscle strain, and Bangladesh, having lost the opening rain-affected encounter by 17 runs, was bundled out for 189 inside 43.2 overs. The 142-run loss to Afghanistan was Bangladesh’s biggest by runs, and it was the nation’s third ODI series loss since 2015. During his 250th ODI, Mushfiqur Rahim led Bangladesh scoring a valuable 69 runs.
How did the match between the sub-continent nations pan out?
To the dismay of the home crowd, Liton Das, who was captaining the team without Tamim Iqbal, chose to bowl first. In the first over, Gurbaz got things going with a stunning cover drive against Mustafizur Rahman. The bowling was unpredictable, throwing away 33 extra runs, bowling Gurbaz too short, and failing to trouble Zadran.
Gurbaz achieved his fourth hundred off precisely 100 balls after smashing eight fours as well as six sixes by sneaking a delivery from left-arm bowler Shakib Al Hasan towards midwicket for a single.
Before Shakib got him LBW through a low-kept delivery, the remainder of his 45 runs were scored from only 24 balls. Gurbaz searched in vain, however, his 145 is the second-highest score for Afghanistan in ODIs. Bangladesh made an excellent comeback to restrict the tourists to a score of 331-9 after 50 overs. In-form bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqi, as well as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, mercilessly tore through Bangladesh’s batting order for the visiting team, taking 6 wickets for merely 72 runs.
The first player to leave the game was Litton Das, who got caught by Mohammed Nabi near short mid-wicket after mistiming a pull shot against Farooqi. Bangladesh’s suffering came to an end during the 44th over as the hosts were bowled out for only 189 runs, sending Bangladesh into free fall.

Wonderful to see Afghanistan’s rising stature in cricket despite a terrible regime at home!— Sumit Agarwal ?? (@sumitagarwal_IN) July 8, 2023
Small teams are really giving impactful performances after all the competitive cricket leagues. Yes, the leagues are in T20 format, but can boost the confidence significantly among the players. And, that confidence has been transformed into the different formats of the game as…

agar 1st match mei KL Rahul woh catch pakad leta and 2nd match mei Siraj strike rotate kar leta, India would have won the series 3-0 ??

Teams like Bangladesh and West Indies are degrading and teams like Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are upgrading.
