India vs Australia 2023

‘Ye jitne ka kya fayeda?’ – Fans react as India seal 2-wicket win over Australia in 1st T20I encounter

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational knock made sure India topple Australia in first T20I.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field first. With a brilliant century off just 47 balls, Josh Inglis proved to be the standout of that innings. He entered the game after Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Matthew Short during the fifth over. Inglis immediately got to work as he brought momentum with his boundaries at the start.

For the most part, Steve Smith kept company with Inglis as they combined for a second wicket partnership of 130. But while Inglis was smacking it all over the pitch, Smith found it difficult to get going. He could only muster 52 prior to getting out after facing 41 deliveries.

His knock might come back to haunt his side. Australia finished with an impressive 208 on the scoreboard after losing just 3 wickets in their 20 overs. Mukesh Kumar was the most impressive bowler as he only conceded 29 runs in his four overs. Although he could not claim a wicket, his death bowling surely saved some runs for India.

Suryakumar’s spectacular innings takes India home in tense run chase!

In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal showed glimpses of Rohit Sharma in his short stay at the crease. During his 7-ball stay at the crease, he raced to 21 before getting out. However, during the first over itself, he sent back Ruturaj Gaikwad without facing a ball, as he got run-out.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan had a stunning 112-run stand which saw their team come back into the chase. The left-right combination worked well as they picked their bowlers to attack wisely. Ishan Kishan threw his wicket away in an attempt to accelerate and reduce the required run rate.

Suryakumar kept going and reduced the pressure from the other batters. His 80-run knock was essential in making sure India reaches its target. However, he was dismissed just 15 runs from the target. Some tight bowling and crucial fielding saw India needing one run from one ball. Rinku Singh hit a six on the final ball to deliver the win for the nation.
