‘Ye hota hai generational talent’ – Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal scores maiden century at home against England during second Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young opener for India, scored the first century of the series for the home team. After the second session of Day 1 in the Visakhapatnam Test, Team India scored 225 for three. On a sweltering and muggy day within the coastal town of Andhra Pradesh, Jaiswal reached his century in just 151 balls during the second session with a brilliantly controlled knock.

He was the first Indian batsman to reach fifty today and made sure he reached the three-figure threshold. At the beginning of the Indian innings in Vizag, Yashasvi Jaiswal showed off his ability to bat in many gears, as he was not as aggressive as he was in Hyderabad.

During the first innings of the first Test match in Hyderabad last week, three Indian batsmen including Yashasvi Jaiswal, passed the 50-run mark. But none of them went on to score a significant hundred and put pressure on the bowlers. 

Head coach Rahul Dravid blamed this, as the hosts suffered a shocking defeat in the opening game of the series to England. India scored 436 runs during the first innings to take a 190-run lead, however many people felt that India might have continued and scored more runs.

How did India lose the three wickets?

Earlier, Shoaib Bashir, the England spinner, quickly got his first wicket in the Test match. Meanwhile, on the first day in the second test in Visakhapatnam, James Anderson’s late-morning breakthrough hampered India at lunch. Shoaib Bashir made an impression during his fourth over when he dismissed Rohit, who sliced to Ollie Pope at leg slip. 

In an attempt to regain control of the game, Shubman Gill retaliated with five boundaries to bring in a quick 34 run knock. But Anderson came to the rescue to end his smooth innings as the 41-year-old had Gill caught behind. 

On 27, Tom Hartley removed Shreyas Iyer from the game to end the 90-run partnership. There wasn’t much bounce, so Iyer wanted to eliminate this one. Ben Foakes, the wicketkeeper, completed an outstanding low catch after he received a bottom edge.
