IPL 2024
‘Ye hai IPL ka jalwa’ – Fans react as Glenn Maxwell discusses IPL to be the last ever tournament of his career
Glenn Maxwell is one of the most lethal players in the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad currently.
Glenn Maxwell, the all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bangalore, plans to continue competing in the Indian Premier League as long as he can walk. He said earlier today that, “The IPL will be the last tournament I ever play, as I will continue to participate in it until I don’t stop walking.”
Maxwell began his IPL career in 2012 with the Delhi Capitals, and he has been a participant for over ten years. After the Mumbai Indians purchased him at auction in 2013, he went on to become the first player to earn a million dollars in the next edition.
The year 2014 saw him make his tournament debut alongside the mighty Punjab Kings. 552 runs were scored by the right-handed batter at a strike percentage of 187.75. Prior to signing with RCB during the 2021 auction, he was unable to do anything in the previous five seasons of the tournament.
He was acquired by RCB for INR 14.25 crore, and has been sensational for them. In 2021, 2022, as well as 2023, he scored 513, 301, and 400 runs respectively. His SR in the IPL 2023 has been approximately 183.49.
“It is the greatest learning experience that any cricketer could ask for.” Glenn Maxwell
The middle-order batter spoke about the significance and learnings from the Indian Premier League during his time over the years. He said, “IPL has helped me a lot over the years. I have played with big players and coaches, which has been beneficial. You are sharing a dressing room with AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli for two months. It is the greatest learning experience that any cricketer could ask for.”
The 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies will take place just before the IPL. Maxwell hopes to see more participants from Australia in the competition. Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, and Josh Hazlewood have all entered the auction with their names.
The Melbourne Stars will be led by Maxwell in Thursday’s BBL opener. Australia wants to win the T20 World Cup for the second time. In Dubai (UAE), the country managed to win its first one in 2021.
