‘Ye banega agla Raina’ – Fans react as Sameer Rizvi speaks after getting bought by CSK during IPL Auctions 2024
Sameer Rizvi looks set to take the number four spot left vacant by Ambati Rayudu.
The Chennai Super Kings purchased Sameer Rizvi for INR 8.4 crore during IPL Auctions 2024. On Wednesday, the day after he was surrounded by a diverse group of individuals at his Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, home. The local minister, reporters from the media, and residents of nearby homes were all vying for his attention.
After only 24 matches with the senior UP team, Rizvi was baffled by the way the auction had gone. He was also astonished by the fact that a top team like CSK had prevailed in a bidding battle to get him.
The right-handed batter spoke to ESPNcricinfo at his house. He said, “All the hard work I’ve been putting in for all these years has paid off about 50%. I barely slept last night. I couldn’t even watch my bidding happen because a few players went unsold before me so I was nervous. Even while going to sleep I kept thinking about how I’m going to prepare for the IPL, will I do well, but I was also excited.”
Sameer Rizvi added that, “Even I kept wondering how did I get so much money, and why did CSK bid for me. Even now I’ve not been able to make much sense of that amount. I will leave it to my family to decide what to do with that much money. This is a gift from God because not everyone gets to play for CSK. I’m so happy I’m going to be a part of a champion team.”
Sameer Rizvi talks about comparison with Suresh Raina
The young UP batter spoke about his growing comparisons and similar playing style to Suresh Raina. The retired Indian batter is one of the biggest inspirations for young players growing up in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chennai Super Kings batter concluded by saying that, “People compare me with Raina because of the way I play. If people call me a right-handed Raina then I’ll aim to do what he did for CSK. Even I love fielding like him. I’ll give it my everything.”
