ODI World Cup 2023
‘Ye banda itta selfless kyu hai’ – Fans react as India skipper Rohit Sharma misses out on another century in ongoing CWC23 against England
Rohit, in his innings, scored 87 runs off 101 balls with the help of ten fours and three sixes.
In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India skipper Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal with the bat. Apart from a duck against Australia, Rohit has given India a much-needed start in the last five games and has been amazing. However, in a different situation in Lucknow on Sunday, Rohit changed his approach and scored another marvellous half-century.
Rohit, in his innings, scored 87 runs off 101 balls with the help of ten fours and three sixes. In his innings, Rohit tried to rescue India from a poor start, as the team lost three wickets for a mere 40 runs. However, a bad shot selection in the 37th over led to his dismissal, as he missed out on another century. It’s worth noting that in the ongoing tournament, Rohit has scored 398 runs in six innings at an average of 66.33.
Earlier, in the game, the Indian top order failed to hold nerves as the English pacers clinched three quick wickets. Star pacer Chris Woakes dismissed opener Shubman Gill for a mere nine runs. Soon, David Willey dismissed star India batter Virat Kohli for a nine-ball duck. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer continues his poor form, as he was dismissed by the Woakes for a mere 4 runs off 16 balls.
Can England stay alive in the race to the semifinals?
A win in this game is much needed for the defending champions, as they are 10th in the points table. They have won just a single game till now in five matches, and a loss here will eliminate them from the ongoing tournament. On the other hand, India will be looking to continue their winning run. A win here will virtually ensure India’s place in the ongoing tournament.
After this game, India will be facing Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 2. Meanwhile, England will be taking on archrivals Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 4. The game will be important for both, as England will look to continue their hunt for a semi-final spot while Australia will look to confirm their place in the semifinals.
