Day 2 of the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy was similar to the first day as plenty of runs were scored but not many wickets were lost. Australia resumed their batting innings with a score of 255/4 with overnight centurion Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green in the middle.

The two batters displayed exceptional skill in consistently putting the Indian bowlers under pressure. Khawaja and Green remained unbeaten through the lunch break, and the latter also scored a century shortly after the break. However, his stay at the crease ended shortly after that. Ravichandran Ashwin got the breakthrough wicket and ended the 208-run fifth-wicket stand.

Green scored a quickfire knock of 114 runs in 170 deliveries, which included 17 boundaries. This was his maiden hundred in Test cricket and he couldn’t have asked for a better situation to score it. While the Kangaroos lost a couple more wickets, Khawaja continued his positive striking of the ball. He ended up scoring 180 runs in 422 balls, including 21 boundaries.

Axar Patel finally got him in the 147th over of the game. While the Indians were eager to get on the field and score some runs, Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy made it difficult. The pair put on a 50-run stand for the ninth wicket, giving their team some useful runs at the end. They were eventually dismissed for 480 runs. Ashwin was India’s only saving grace, taking six wickets in the innings.

With 10 overs remaining in the day, India was finally given the opportunity to bat in the match. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out determined to score runs and succeeded. They remained unbeaten and scored 36 runs in the 10 overs.

The home side will now trail by 444 runs and will look to get good results on Day 3. Looking at the wicket, it appears to be a batter’s delight. They’ll try to build on their strong start by getting some runs on the board.
