Chennai opening batter Devon Conway has been sensational since making his comeback in the playing XI recently. Conway was dropped after his low return in the opening game of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. During this phase, the defending champions could only register two wins. Conway also went back to his birthland i.e., South Africa to get married.

After his wedding, the left-hander’s fortunes changed. In the game against Hyderabad on May 1, the 30-year-old got the opportunity to feature in the playing XI and show the world what he can do. In that game, he scored an unbeaten 85 off 55 balls including eight fours and four sixes. This was the start of the brilliant performances he has put together since his comeback.

In the next game against Bangalore, the Johannesburg-born player scored a brilliant 56 off 37 balls including six fours and two sixes. He carried his form in the ongoing game against Delhi. The 2020 finalists won the toss and elected to bowl first. Little did they know what they were going to face in their bowling innings. He started started steadily and scored 14 runs off the first 13 balls.

However, after getting his eye in, the New Zealand cricketer took the attack on the opposition bowlers. In the fifth over of the innings, he reached 27 off 17 with the help of two sixes. This was the start of the havoc he wreaked on the Rishabh Pant-led side. He reached 50 off 27 balls in the ninth over of the innings.

From here, he raced to 83 off 43 in the 14th over. However, after this, he started losing the strike and rhythm in his batting. He could only get to 87 off 49 balls before he was caught behind by Pant off Khaleel Ahmed. At this stage, with 3.3 overs were remaining in the innings the opener could have gotten his maiden Indian T20 League hundred. His innings helped the team to reach a competitive total of 208/6 as the team is looking to explore the thin chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
