India and Afghanistan faced off each other in match 11 of the Asia Cup 2022 in the Super 4 round on Thursday. The two have already bowed out of the tournament and this was all supposed to be a formality. Mohammad Nabi, the Afghanistan skipper won the toss and elected to field first. KL Rahul was given the captaincy hat as Rohit Sharma was rested for the match.

The Karnataka batter and the Bangalore batter Virat Kohli opened the innings for India. The former got off to a good start as India ended the powerplay without losing a wicket after amassing 52 runs. After putting on a century partnership for the first wicket, the Lucknow batter made his way back for 62 runs.

However, India kept toiling it hard and the Bangalore batter scored his 71st International century and ended up being unbeaten on 122 in 20 overs. India ended up with a massive total of 212 for the loss of only two wickets.

India’s thumping win

Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was breathing fire right from ball one as he picked up two wickets in the first over alone. It completely looked like Men in Blue’s day as the bowler swung the ball in almost every ball that he bowled. With the team already out of the tournament, the bowlers looked to make a statement.

The Afghanistan batters looked drained on the back of a thundering defeat against Pakistan last night. Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended up with a five-for and removed half of the Afghanistan batters within seven overs. The mental fatigue was clearly visible from the batters who struggled to time the ball and ended up missing a lot of deliveries.

The timing looked poor and the Indian bowlers left no stone unturned to register a thumping win against Afghanistan. The Men in Blue won the match by 101 runs and ended their Asia Cup 2022 campaign on a high. The team looked in good spirit and the Indian fans were all cheered up for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

Let’s take a look at some of the fiery tweets that came up post match:
