Another big change that was seen in the Indian squad was KL Rahul being stripped as India's ODI vice-captain.
Shikhar Dhawan's being ignored for the ODI squad came as a huge shock for fans. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Dhawan had been leading the Indian side. In 22 matches played this year, Dhawan managed to score 688 runs at an average of 34.40. After a string of poor performances, Dhawan was eventually dropped from the ODI squad.
Hardik Pandya will surely be elated as apart from leading the team in the T20I series, he will also be acting as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the ODI series. As for the T20Is, the in-form Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the vice-captain.
Two names that attracted everyone’s attention at the recently concluded IPL 2023 auction- Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar- have been added to India’s T20I squad.
India’s senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul have been rested for the T20Is, and will only be participating in the three ODIs. With the ODI World Cup 2023 approaching and India being the host of the marquee event, it gives an impression that the seniors are currently focused on preparing themselves for the 50-over games.
