The Bengal pacer was part of India’s squad that faced South Africa for a three-match ODI series prior to the T20 World Cup 2022 but could not get a chance. Thus, Mukesh might get a nod over Mavi in the forthcoming T20I series.
However, Ishan Kishan has been India’s go-to man for the opening slot. And as Shubman Gill has done a great job for the Men in Blue and hammered 687 runs in 15 ODIs, the think tank might look at him to partner Kishan at the top. Thus, Gaikwad might not get an opportunity in the T20I entire series.
The Indian management has included him for the forthcoming T20I series against the Lankan Lions but he might again have to warm the bench as India’s top order consists of Ishan, Shubman, and Suryakumar.
