5. Time Paine

Tim Paine is the latest Australian player to be marred in an embarrassing scandal. The wicketkeeper batter was accused of sending lewd messages to a female employee at Cricket Tasmania. Following the allegations, Paine was asked to step down from captaincy and went on an indefinite break.

4. Shane Warne

In 2000, Shane Warne admitted to having ‘a bit of dirty talk on the phone’ with British nurse Donna Wright. The player was then stripped of his vice-captaincy as a result of lewd phone call allegations.

At the 2009 20-20 World Cup, for example, the Australian all-rounder was sent back home from England for breaking a number of rules relating to alcohol.

2. David Warner / Steve Smith

In 2018, Captain Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for knowing about the sandpaper while Bancroft was banned for doing it. The then coach Darren Lehman also resigned following criticism.

In 1999, when the right-hand batter was thrown out of the Equinox disco at the Peerless Hotel in Kolkata after trying to crash a party there. Ponting went into a scuffle with security and came out with a bruised eye. The three times World Cup winner was later fined by Cricket Australia.
