India lost in yet another semi-finals of the 20-20 World Cup and failed to get to the glory. Australia defeated India by 5 runs in the Women’s 20-20 World Cup semi-final. Although despite suffering a heartbreaking loss to Australia by 5 runs on Thursday, Indian cricket Board secretary Jay Shah praised Team India for their commitment against Australia in the semi-finals.

India’s wait for a world championship title came to an end on Thursday when they lost to Australia in a close game. The Aussies’ nerves prevailed over top performances from captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. Australia is now through to the finals and will be looking to win the third consecutive world cup.

After India’s loss, Board Secretary Jay Shah Tweeted, “A tough loss for Women’s team against Australia in the Women’s World Cup, but we couldn’t be prouder of our girls for their spirit on the field. The team gave it their all & showed that they are true warriors. We stand with you, Women in Blue! #INDWvsAUSW.”

India made terrible mistakes in the most important game

In the most important game of the tournament, things didn’t go well for the team. After winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first and score 172 runs in 20 overs. India did very poorly on the field and dropped four important catches in the game. Indian bowlers also didn’t perform well as Australia hammered 74 runs in the last six overs.

Chasing 173 didn’t go well for team India when they lost 3 wickets for just 28 runs in the powerplay. Star India batter Smriti Mandhana failed to score in the most important match as she was dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner for just two runs.

However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues played with brilliance and took India to a commanding position. The fate was something else and India lost Harmanpreet and Jemimah in quick succession and failed to hold nerves in the last stage of the run chase. When it counted most, Harmanpreet came through in a big way, scoring her 10th T20I fifty in just 32 balls with six fours and a six.
