Zimbabwe allrounder Ryan Burl entered the record books as he scored a blistering 54 off just 28 balls in the third T20I against Bangladesh. On Tuesday, the southpaw helped his team post 156 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs as Zimbabwe won the match by 10 runs.

Burl also found himself in the record books as he smashed spinner, Nasum Ahmed, all around the ground in the 15th over of the innings. The left-hander clobbered 34 runs in the over making it the third most expensive over in the history of T20 internationals. Burl hit five sixes and a boundary in the over as the spinner Ahmed tried all the tricks in his bag but failed to stop the onslaught.

At one moment it looked as if the flamboyant batter might end up hitting six sixes in the over but the fifth ball by Ahmed only fetched him four runs as the ball bounced just a few inches inside the boundary. Continuing the momentum, the 28-year-old finished the over in grand style as he smashed a wide delivery over deep extra over for a six. Nasum Ahmed didn’t bowl another over in the innings and finished his two overs giving 40 runs away.

Here’s the video of the bizarre over:

Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard are the only two batters to hit six sixes in an over in T20 internationals which are also the two most expensive overs in T20I cricket. They achieved their feats against Stuart Broad and Akila Dananjaya respectively. The joint third most expensive over along with Nasum Ahmed was bowled by India’s Shivam Dube who also gave away 34 runs in a T20I against New Zealand in 2020.

Coming back to the match, Burl came into bat with Zimbabwe reeling at 55/5 in the tenth over. Burl along with L Jongwe added 79 runs for the seventh wicket and took Zimbabwe’s total to 156. Bangladesh’s chase could never get going as they lost wickets in regular intervals as Zimbabwe won the match by 10 runs. With this win, Zimbabwe also won the three-match T20I series by 2-1. Ryan Burl was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning knock.
