Pakistan faced a horrifying defeat at the hands of England in their historic Test series after 17 years. The team led by Ben Stokes annihilated the hosts as they whitewashed Pakistan in the three-match series. The counter-attacking approach by the England team helped them produce a result even on the flat track prepared in Rawalpindi for the first match.

Now, the Pakistan team and the Pakistan Cricket Board have been facing backlash from many of their former cricketers. Shoaib Akhtar is the latest to join this conversation. The former pacer termed this defeat “very embarrassing” and warned the Pakistani team to focus on cricket.

“Ye bohot embarrassing ho jaata hai. Aur ye ludo nahi hai, ye Instagram nahi hai, please focus on cricket. Lekin embarrassing, very very embarrassing, really embarrassing to see. Ye ground pe cricket ho rahi hai, reality me cricket ho rahi hai, yaha pe performance deni hai, yaha pe pata lagna hai kya hoga. Maa kasam ye phenti padi hai aur ye phenti inko sadiyo yaad rahegi. Aur inko criticism dena bhi chahiye aur karna bhi chahiye.

“(This becomes very embarrassing. This is not ludo, this is not Instagram, please focus on cricket. But embarrassing, very very embarrassing, really embarrassing to see. You are playing on the ground, you are playing in the reality, you have to perform here, and you will get the results here only. They have been trashed, and they will remember this for ages. And they deserve to be criticised,” he said.

After 17 years, England visited Pakistan for a Test series, and under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, the home side was thoroughly defeated. This series is evidence of the new-age England team. On the other hand, Pakistan were eliminated from the running for a place in the Test Championship 2023 final. In addition, Azhar Ali, who played his last game for Pakistan would have wanted to end his career on a high note but couldn’t.
