The Indian batters had a disappointing outing in the first ODI against Bangladesh as they were bundled out for 186 in 41.2 overs. However, Indian bowlers did a great job and didn’t let the game slip away from their hands. Seamers Deepak Chahar and Mohammad Siraj picked up one wicket each to give Bangladesh some early blows. Off-spinner Washington Sundar also made full use of the slow pitch and picked up two wickets which included the priceless scalp of Shakib-al-Hasan courtesy of a brilliant catch by Virat Kohli.

It was on the third ball of the 23rd over that Shakib tried to hit a flighted ball by Sundar through covers, however, he ended up playing it in the air to Kohli at short cover who jumped to his full height and completed a marvellous catch on his right. Shakib departed after scoring 29 off 38 balls as Bangladesh lost their fourth wicket on 95.

Shakib-al-Hasan picked up 5/36 in the first innings

Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli himself got out caught at short cover by Bangladesh captain Litton Das on Shakib’s bowling. The all-rounder broke the back of the star-studded Indian batting lineup with his five-wicket haul. The 35-year-old cleaned up Rohit Sharma to get his first wicket and dismissed Kohli two balls later in the same over as Litton Das completed a sensational catch at short cover.

He further picked up the wicket of Washington Sundar in the 33rd over leaving India at 152/5. Shakib had another two-wicket over in the game removing all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar in the 35th over. The former Bangladesh captain finished with the figures of 5/36 in 10 overs.

KL Rahul was the lone warrior in the Indian innings who was included in the team as a wicketkeeper batter as Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the squad due to a medical concern. After coming in to bat at no 5, Rahul scored a magnificent 73 off 70 balls and was involved in a 60-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Washington Sundar. He got out in the 40th over trying to score some quick runs with just two wickets left in the innings.

Bangladesh were 110/4 after 29 overs requiring another 77 runs from 126 balls for victory.
