On Wednesday, the second One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi witnessed an unusual scene. Aleem Dar, the on-field umpire, was hit when a throw from Pakistan’s Mohammad Wasim Jr struck his right ankle. The umpire was visibly enraged with the incident.

When the incident occurred, Glenn Phillips hit a shot off Haris Rauf to deep square leg in the 36th over. Wasim collected the ball and threw it, which struck the umpire’s leg. Dar threw a jersey he had on the ground after being hit. Pakistan captain Babar Azam and others were seen laughing. Naseem Shah was then seen massaging Dar’s right leg.

In the second One-Day International in Karachi, spinner Mohammad Nawaz took four wickets to help Pakistan restrict New Zealand to 261 all out after opener Devon Conway hit a century. Nawaz finished with 4-38 as New Zealand fell from a strong 183 for one in 29.5 overs to 206-6 in 40 deliveries, losing five wickets for 23 runs.

As for the chase, captain Babar Azam scored 79 runs in 114 deliveries, but he did not get much support from his teammates. Mohammad Rizwan, with 28 runs in 50 balls, was the next-highest run-scorer for the Men in Green.

The Black Caps, on the other hand, were on top of their game with the ball at Karachi’s National Stadium. They kept the wickets coming at regular intervals, putting them in control of the match. Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi each took two wickets to help the visitors to a 79-run victory. With Pakistan restricted to a score of 182-10, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, and Glen Phillips also took a wicket each.

The team led by Babar Azam had won the first ODI match by six wickets at the same venue on Monday. The third match and the series decider will be played on the 13th of January at the National Stadium. After a draw in the Test series, both teams will give their all for a result in their favour.
