Watch: Sunil Gavaskar hilariously predicts Babar Azam becoming Pakistan’s Prime Minister if he wins 20-20 World Cup

Pakistan completed an incredible comeback at the 20-20 World Cup, defeating New Zealand to become the tournament’s first finalist in Australia. The journey for Babar Azam and his boys was nothing short of dramatic, as they were on the verge of being eliminated at one point.
However, an emphatic victory over South Africa, followed by the Proteas’ shocking defeat against the Netherlands, paved the way for Men In Green to advance to the knockout stage, which they easily got through. Many fans and experts have linked Pakistan’s unpredictability in the 20-20 World Cup to their run in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. The Imran Khan-led team then defeated England in the World Cup final to win the trophy.
While this could all be a coincidence, Pakistan had a similar run in the tournament, which was also held in Australia. Similarly to Wednesday, Pakistan faced off against New Zealand in the semifinals after losing to India in the group stage.
In fact, both Pakistan and England are likely to set a date 30 years later at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the country won its first World Cup. The Three Lions, led by Jos Buttler, is currently facing India in the semifinals in Adelaide.
While Babar and his team are hoping for a repeat, fans have already begun to connect the dots and predict that Babar will become Prime Minister in the future, as seen with Imran Khan. Former cricketers, including legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar, have begun to make similar assumptions.
“I think if Pakistan do win the World Cup, in 2048 Babar Azam will be the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports, while everyone burst into laughter.

In the meantime, all Pakistan fans will be watching the second semi-final to see who they will face in the finals. Another India-Pakistan clash is on the cards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The last time the two arch-rivals met, Virat Kohli delivered a spectacular knock to help his team win.
