Watch: Sanju Samson says that he is proud to be a Malayali

Sanju Samson has been fantastic for India in the white-ball format off late. He has been playing stupendous innings, and at times has anchored the innings too. The Kerala-born marched on to the third ODI against Zimbabwe after having a great outing in the second ODI. Ahead of the third ODI, former cricketer, Rohan Gavaskar caught up with the youngster to have a quick chat. The batter said that he was proud to be Malayali and thanked his Malayali fans for the incredible support.

Sanju Samson had some of the most interesting and inspiring answers to all questions. When asked about his performance in the second ODI, he admitted that he was surprised to spend a lot of time in the middle. The Indian wicketkeeper added that it felt good to win for Team India and highlighted how kept testing himself throughout the innings.

“I think first of all, I think, to be very honest I didn’t expect to spend that much amount of time in the middle. So, I think, but I think, cricket as you know it’s a funny game and it can get you anywhere,” he added. Samson added that he was really pumped to testify himself in tough situations. The Kerala batter helped team India clinch victory in the second ODI and remained unbeaten till the end.

The 28-year-old sprinkled hints on how captaincy has changed his game over the years. He added that it was difficult to see his friends represent India while he was still playing in the domestic arena. Gavaskar asked if he felt pressure pertaining to the support that he gets from his fans. Sanju Samson aced the question with an inspiring answer as he admitted his pride in being a Malayali and acknowledged the Malayalis who support him.

“No, I think, when you are playing for your country and only about five-seven games I have played and then you get that kind of a support from the crowd, I think it’s always I think I am very proud to be a Malayali, again to be very honest. I can say that, I can see a lot of people calling me ‘Cheta, Cheta, Cheta’. I think I can see that a lot of Malayalis are supporting me,” Samson concluded.

This interview has attracted a lot of praise for the batter for his stunning maturity. Sanju Samson will look to carry on the momentum for Team India going forward.
