The inaugural edition of the International League T20 is being loved by the cricketing fraternity all around the world as fans are getting to see the best of both current and retired cricketers in action. The Match no 5 of the tournament on Monday also got to see a vintage superstar of Indian cricket, Robin Uthappa in action. Uthappa, who was batting for Dubai Capitals against Gulf Giants smacked 79 off 46 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.

Uthappa turned the clock back in time as fans got to see his breath-taking shots in action. He put his vintage strokeplay on display by stepping out of his crease and hitting the bowlers over their heads.

Coming back to the match, Gulf Giants captain James Vince won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dubai Capitals openers Robin Uthappa and Joe Root walked out to the middle to give their team a blazing start. They added 71 runs in 44 balls with the bulk of the runs coming from Uthappa’s bat.

Apart from Uthappa, Rovman Powell and Sikandar Raza also made vital contributions to the team’s total. Powell scored 38 off 25 balls while Raza scored an unbeaten 30 off 19 balls. The rest of the batters from Dubai couldn’t do much as they fell cheaply. As a result, the Capitals finished their innings on 182/8 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

James Vince’s hurricane knock helped Giants chase down the total with an over to spare

Rehan Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Gulf Giants who picked up 3 wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Richard Gleeson also picked up 2/22 in 4 overs.

In reply, Giants got off to a decent start as openers James Vince and Rehan Ahmed added 43 runs in 33 balls. Giants lost two quick wickets in the sixth over and Rehand Ahmed and Ollie Pope returned to the pavilion. However, James Vince and Gerhard Erasmus added 107 runs for the third wicket. Erasmus got run out for a well-made 52 off 28 balls, however, Vince continued his innings and scored a magnificent 83 off 56 balls to take his team home with six balls to spare.

As a result, Giants won the match by 6 wickets as Vince was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.
