Luka Modric is one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Even at 36, the Croatian is going strong and is leaps and bounds better than many young players.

The Real Madrid player however despite winning innumerable accolades is still one of the humblest footballers today. His footballing masterclass when combined with his likeable personality makes him one of the fan favourites today. Not just Real Madrid fans but even fans of opposite teams

Something akin to this was seen when Real Madrid faced Celta Vigo in their second match of the new Laliga season. Modric came up with a sensational performance in the 4-1 win over Celta that vowed not just Real fans but Celta fans in equal measure.

Celta fans were so moved by Modric’s performance that they stood up and applauded the Croatian when he was being substituted. The great gesture from Celta fans has moved many on social media as the video has gone viral.

Talking of the match, it was a statement from Real Madrid who recently lost Casemiro to Manchester United. Playing without the midfield workhorse, Real showed great bench strength to win the match comfortably.

Karim Benzema gave the visiting side a lead with a penalty in the 14th minute but the scoreboard was tied when Iago Aspas converted a penalty of his own. It was then that Modric showed his true class and scored a great goal from the outside of the box. In the second half, Real Madrid came even stronger and scored the third goal in the 56th minute. Modric was the provider for Vinicius Junior’s goal this time.

Modric was taken off at the 77th-minute mark as the game was already done by that point. As Modric walked towards the dugout, Celta fans could be seen giving a standing ovation to the Ballon d’Or winner.

Real Madrid with two wins in their opening two matches move to first in the La Liga points table. Their next match is against RCD Espanyol on 29th against.
