WATCH : Rahkeem Cornwall becomes second player to receive red card in CPL 2023
Sunil Narine earlier this season became the first player to receive a red card in the Caribbean Premier League 2023.
On September 10 in Trinidad, during the first inning of the match between the Barbados Royals and the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the Caribbean Premier League 2023 experienced the issuance of its second red card.
The Barbados Royals, who were captained by West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell, maintained a modest overrate. During the penultimate over of the team’s bowling inning, the side was penalised and were forced to use just three players outside the circle, and they subsequently used just 10 men for the last over.
In order to combat the deteriorating over rates, the current version of the CPL implemented a novel red-card rule. If the fielding side is trailing at the start of the final over, it is stated that they will be required to play with one fewer fielder. If they are behind at the beginning of both the 18th and 19th overs, they will additionally include a fifth and a sixth fielder within the circle.
On August 27, during the first innings of the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) vs. St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots match No. 12, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)’s first-ever red card was issued. For the last over of the innings, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) captain Kieron Pollard instructed star spinner Sunil Narine to leave the field and take the team’s penalty on himself.
Rahkeem Cornwall, the West Indies all-around player, ended up having to leave the pitch for the last over after a magnificent century last week on 45 balls.

Fortunately, the Royals only lost 20 runs as a result of the penalty while also picking up five wickets to finish the innings.
Guyana lost a commanding position of 107/1 after 11.3 overs, eventually scoring 181/9 from its 20 overs. With captain Rovman Powell and seasoned Jason Holder standing at the crease, the table-toppers from previous season are responding with a score of 116/4 in 14 overs and need a further 66 from the remaining six overs. They ended up losing the match by a small margin of 3 runs.
