The end of the season US Open always brings shocking results. All of the big three players often end up losing before the semi-finals and something like this has happened again. After third-seeded Rafael Nadal lost to Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16, the US Open was again certain to have a winner from outside the top three for the third straight year.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios who had a good chance to go all the way crashed out after losing 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4 against Russian Karen Khachanov on Tuesday. What followed was an absolute show of anger that took the life of two tennis rackets.

After shaking hands with the opponent and the referee, the Australian player moved towards his dugout and started to smash his racket on the ground before it gave away. Kyrgios however did not just stop there. After smashing one racket on the ground, he took another and did the same with it. All while Khachanov showed his racking and thanked the crowd for the support.

Here’s the video:

Kyrgios is widely known for his aggressive approach to tennis and has been involved in similar instances before as well. He is currently ranked 25th in the Tennis ranking and was hopeful of winning the tournament.

“I feel like I have let so many people down. I feel like these four tournaments are the only ones that ever are going to matter. It’s just like you have got to start it all again. I have to wait until the Australian Open,” said Kyrgios in the post-match conference.

With the win, Khachanov and C Rudd have moved to the semi-final. The other two quarterfinals between J Sinner – Carlos Alcaraz and A Rublev and Francis Tiafoe will bring the other two semi-finalists.

Earlier, world number five Novak Djokovic wasn’t allowed to enter the US due to his non-vaccinated status. Elsewhere the number of seeded Daniil Medvedev lost to Nick Kyrgios in the round of 16.
