In the 46th match of the Indian T20 League 2022, Hyderabad faced Chennai at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Notably, the match saw the return of MS Dhoni as the captain of the Chennai team after Ravindra Jadeja handed over the responsibilities back to ‘Captain Cool’.

With the King returning to claim back his crown, his team also returned to the winning ways. Chennai batted first in the match and scored 202 runs from their 20 overs. The openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway displayed excellent batsmanship putting up a stellar partnership of 182 runs for the first wicket, helping their team to a formidable total.

While bowling it was Mukesh Choudhary who starred for Chennai picking up four wickets in the first three overs of his spell. However, in the final over of his spell and the match he was taken to the cleaners by the West Indian Nicholas Pooran. The left-hand batter was going berserk against the bowler and as a result, he was losing the plot. He bowled a leg-side delivery which was called a wide. This made ‘Captain Cool’ lose his cool. He gestured to the bowler that the field is set on the off-stump and it is point-less straying down the leg. 24 runs were scored in the over but yet it was not enough for Hyderabad to win the match. 38 runs were required in the last over and hence Hyderabad lost the match by 13 runs.

While speaking about defending totals in T20 cricket Dhoni said – “I always told my bowlers, you may get hit for four sixes in an over, but the two balls that you save- ultimately in a high-scoring game- those are the two deliveries that will help you win the game,”- during the post-match presentation.

“Because a lot of bowlers, after getting 3-4 sixes, they will be like let’s get done with it but that one boundary or even instead of sixes if you get hit for two fours that will help you in a game. I don’t know if they believe in that theory, but it works’”- MSD added.
