Watch: KL Rahul leaves Rohit Sharma stunned with his majestic flick-shot in the first T20I against Australia
Rahul looked confident in the first T20I against Australia on Tuesday as he scored a brilliant half-century.
Star Indian batter KL Rahul has had a forgettable time since his return to international cricket last month. The opener scored a much-needed half-century against Afghanistan in India’s last match of the Asia Cup scoring 62 off 41 balls. Rahul carried his confidence in the first T20I against Australia on Tuesday as he once again looked at his usual best.
After being circumspect early on, Rahul got in full mood after he set his eye in. The Karnataka batter put on his majestic strokeplay on display scoring another brilliant half-century against Australia. One particular shot from Rahul’s innings has been going viral on social media. Even captain Rohit Sharma was left in awe of Rahul’s scintillating shot.
It all happened on the fourth ball of the eighth over of the Indian innings. On the delivery that was bowled on Rahul’s legs by Cameron Green, the former played a majestic flick launching the ball high into the night sky and over the deep square leg boundary for a massive six. The crowd, the bowler and the Indian captain were all left awestruck seeing Rahul’s wrists weave their magic on the cricket ball.

The picture of the opener holding his pose as he saw the ball travelling towards the crowd was as sumptuous as the shot itself. The Indian batter was in sublime form as he plundered four fours and three sixes in his innings. He was involved in a 68-run-stand for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav after India lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early on.
KL Rahul needs to come back to form before the World Cup
Rahul desperately needed some runs under his belt with just one month left in the 20-20 World Cup. With the questions being raised on his form, there were widespread discussions around promoting Kohli up the order. The 30-year-old was out of action since May after the Indian T20 League due to an injury.
He underwent surgery in Germany for Sports Hernia in June and returned to international cricket for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in August. Rahul will look to continue his form in the upcoming games and settle some nerves down in the Indian team management which is already having a rough time after the Asia Cup loss.
