India is currently playing a five-match T20I series against South Africa at home. The Indian selectors rested some big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah for the series. While selecting a team of Indian T20 League performers, the selectors rested the onus of leading the team on KL Rahul.  But just ahead of the first match, India received a big jolt as the standing captain was ruled out of the series owing to a groin injury.

Notably, Rahul is a part of the Indian squad that will travel to England for an all-format series against the Three lions. Just after being ruled out of the home series against the Proteas, Rahul took to his Instagram handle to share a video of himself sweating it out in the gym. By the looks of it, Rahul looked determined to make a comeback for the England tour. The post was captioned “setbacks<comebacks”.

Kl Rahul will be an important part of India’s plans in the series against England. He looked in great touch the last time India visited England. He effectively saw out the new ball and often provided the team with good starts. Rahul has scored 526 runs in 12 innings on English soil. He also scored a sublime century in the first test in 2021. Once again Rahul’s job will be to negate the threat posed by the dangerous duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

As per reported by InsideSport, a BCCI official was optimistic about the star batter’s return before the all-important series. The official stated – “He should be available for the Test in England but it’s too early to say anything. What we know so far is that the injury is not very serious but he was withdrawn from the South Africa series as a precaution.”

India Test squad for England: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain) Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna
