India vs Sri Lanka 2023

Watch: Fans invades pitch to take selfie with Virat Kohli

The ongoing Test between India and Sri Lanka saw two fans invading the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 13. The incident reminded us of the pre-COVDI19 era when fans in India would enter the ground to meet their heroes. Not to forget, there was one instance in 2019 when an India fan invaded the pitch to meet former India skipper MS Dhoni during the tour of New Zealand.

Notably, last year, when India was on the tour of England, a man famous as Jarvo69 used to enter the pitch randomly. This was criticized by the Indian fans as they had questioned the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) security measures. Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing game, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) allowed the crowd at full capacity.

During Day Two (March 13) of the game, two fans entered the stadium when the play was halted due to injury to Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis. Mendis was hit by a short ball bowled by Mohammed Shami. These fans took the liberty and entered the stadium with their smartphones and took a selfie with former India skipper Virat Kohli. Notably, the security personnel took some time to try and catch the duo.

Talking about the match proceeding, the Day started with the visitors tottering at 86/6, in reply to hosts amassing 252 all-out. The Rohit Sharma-led side took the remaining four wickets in no time with the opposition bowled out for 109. Leading by 143, the number two ranked Test side piled up the misery for the number seven ranked team as the former amassed 303/9, setting a target of 447 for the latter. At stumps, the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side has scored 28/1.
