After the match, the 2020 finalists had a roaring celebration in the dressing room. As for the match, after winning the toss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis chose to bat first. His move was well received by the team, as he and opener Virat Kohli combined for 82 runs for the first wicket. Faf scored 45 runs off 32 balls, including five boundaries and a six. Glen Maxwell registered a golden duck as Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets on consecutive balls.
Kohli and Mahipal Lomror then contributed 55 runs for the third wicket. Kohli got 55 runs off 46 balls with five boundaries, but his strike rate was once again scrutinised. Mukesh Kumar, the pacer, ejected him. Following his departure, Lomror smashed some spectacular shots to complete his half-century. He hit an undefeated 54 off 29 balls.
Chasing 182, DC got off to a fast start, with opener Phil Salt and skipper David Warner adding 60 runs for the first wicket. Warner got 22 runs off 14 balls, including three boundaries and a six. Pacer Josh Hazelwood eventually got rid of him. Following that, Salt and Mitchell Marsh combined 59 runs for the second wicket.
