The opening match of the Legends League Cricket between India Maharajas and World Giants was a treat to watch for the fans. India Maharajas emerged victorious beating World Giants by five wickets in the special exhibition match celebrating India’s 75 years since independence.

During the innings break of the match, fans got to see a special laser show. A video of the same has gone viral on social media. In the video, the Eden Gardens stadium of Kolkata is seen illuminated with several laser lights with the song ‘Vande-Mataram’ being played in the background. The spectators can be heard singing the patriotic song in unison as the light work in the stadium makes it nothing short of a spectacle.

Coming back to the match, World Giants batted first and reached a total of 170 in their allotted 20 overs. Kevin O’Brien scored a brilliant half-century off 31 balls. Denesh Ramdin was the second-highest scorer of the innings as he remained unbeaten on 42 off 29 balls. Pankaj Singh starred with the ball for Maharajas picking up five wickets for 26 runs in four overs. Harbhajan Singh, Joginder Sharma and Mohammad Kaif picked up one wicket each.

India Maharajas had a disappointing start to their chase losing Virender Sehwag in the very first over with the score on seven. They further lost two more wickets and were reduced to 50/3 in 6.5 overs. A brilliant partnership of 103 between Tanmay Srivastava and Yusuf Pathan almost sealed the deal for Maharajas as they required only 18 runs in 17 balls.

Some fireworks in the end by Irfan Pathan helped them chase down the target of 171 successfully in 18.4 overs. Tanmay Srivastava finished as the top-scorer of the innings scoring 54 off 39 while Yusuf Pathan remained unbeaten on 50 off 35 balls.

After the special exhibition match, the tournament will start with its league matches from today. The first game will be played between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants at Eden Gardens, Kolkata starting at 7:30 P.M.
