The scoreboard showed 35 runs off 3.4 overs. That’s when the controversial incident took place. Baba Aprijith, who was bowling, saw Jagadeesan venture out of his crease a bit prematurely and dislodged the bails when the batsman was out of his crease. Jagadeesan was given out by the umpire as per the Mankad rule for 25 off 15 balls, scoring 4 boundaries in his innings.
The batsman seemed quite annoyed with this dismissal and showed a ‘middle finger’ to the opposition on his way back to the pavilion. The incident went viral immediately with reactions pouring in on various social media platforms.
Following this moment, the match turned out to be a nail-biting affair as it ended in a tie with a Super-over deciding the winner of the match. Nellai Royal Kings won the Super-over and got the first win of the season under their belt.
Sanjay Yadav was awarded ‘Man of the match’ for his blistering 87 off 47 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes. From Super Gillies captain Kaushik Gandhi was the top scorer scoring 64 off 43 balls smashing 7 fours and 2 sixes.
