Ashton Agar lights up Adelaide with alien-like reflexes to save six against England

Post emerging as winners of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, England locked horns with Australia in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series on November 17, Thursday at Adelaide Oval. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the pace battery led by captain Pat Cummins rattled the English batters as the likes of Jason Roy, Philip Salt and James Vince were all over the ball.

With England batters struggling, Dawid Malan’s fighting 134 came as a rescue as he lifted the team off the labyrinth and helped England put on a decent total on the board at the end of the first innings. However, towards the end, it was David Willey who clung to the mighty Australian pace attack and pushed the total further with his 40-ball 34.

In the final ball of the 45th over, Malan tried to hit Cummins’ delivery for a six, only to be saved by Ashton Agar with a stunning effort at the ropes. The video went viral right away and the spectators were left in awe of the unbelievable effort. England eventually put on 287 runs on the board at the end of 50 overs for the loss of 9 wickets.

It’s always a great challenge: Pat Cummins

Ahead of the first ODI, Cummins said that it would be a challenge to play against the mighty England batting attack and claimed that the team would look to turn things around in the 50-over format post their dismal outing in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022.

“We all feel like we probably didn’t play as well, as we know we can, so this is an opportunity straightaway to play against the best. It’s great. They (England) have been the standard for the last four or five years really in white ball cricket, especially ODI, cricket,” Cummins was quoted as saying in a statement by Cricket Australia (CA).

“They’ve got some class players that have played a lot and done well against Australia in particular. It’s always a great challenge, and it’s always a good way to see where you’re at as a team, coming up against the best,” said the Australian skipper further.
