Tributes for the late Shane Warne have flowed in, not just from the cricketing fraternity but also from the sporting world. Several cricketers across the globe paid their tributes after Warne’s death on March 4. Similarly, tributes from the football world have also flown in. During a game between Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets on March 13, the former’s striker George Blackwood struck a goal in the first three minutes of the game.

After the strike, Blackwood took the ball and imitated the legend to give him the tribute. The player at halftime then said that he loved watching Shane Warne growing up.

“I loved Shane Warne growing up. I bowled leggies so a bit of a tribute to him,” Blackwood said.

Talking about the game, the United went on to win the game by 2-1. On the other hand, another tribute came in for the deceased from Ange Postecoglou , Celtic team manager, who had done an interview with the former.

“This is absolutely devastating news to lose Shane, particularly at such a relatively young age, and my heart goes out to his whole family,” Postecoglou told Celtic’s website. We have lost a brilliant man, a phenomenal guy with such personality, energy and spirit and, of course, Australia has lost one of its true sporting icons. Indeed. I’m not sure Australia will ever find anyone quite like him again. For me, he was just one of the greatest and an absolute one of a kind. I had the pleasure of speaking to Shane a few weeks ago and it was a joy, a real moment for me as someone who respected him so much and it is something I will always treasure. Across Australia and, in fact, the whole sporting world, Shane’s loss will be deeply felt. Above all, though, the loss to Shane’s family will be so difficult to bear and to them I extend my sincere and deepest sympathy,” he said.
