Ben Dwarshuis was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his breathtaking spell of 4/17 in 4 overs.
The enthralling action continued in the Big Bash League 2022-23 as Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades got head-to-head against each other in Match 16 of the season. Renegades captain Nic Maddinson won the toss and invited the Sixers to bat first. The Sixers put on 149 runs on the board in the first innings with a half-century from Josh Philippe. During the second innings of the match, Aaron Finch suffered a nasty blow on his finger.
The incident took place on the fourth ball of the third over bowled by Ben Dwarshuis. The ball rose from good length and shaped in to hit Finch straight on his fingers who was caught off-guard. The star batter was seen in excruciating pain as he immediately took off his gloves and sat down on his knees.

Ben Dwarshuis stars in Sixers’ 34 run victory
Coming back to the match, Sixers’ openers Kurtis Patterson and Josh Philippe added 32 runs for the first wicket. After Mujeeb Ur Rahman removed Patterson Philippe continued his innings and scored a brilliant half-century. He was dismissed by Will Sutherland after scoring 55 off 40 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. The Sixers were 91/2 after 12 overs after Philippe’s wicket.
From there on, they suffered a dramatic collapse and were reeling at 133/8 after 18.4 overs. Jackson Bird’s short cameo of 13 off 6 balls took them to 149/8 after 20 overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for the Sixers as he scalped three wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Kane Richardson and Will Sutherland picked up two wickets each.
Renegades suffered a massive blow as they lost captain Nic Maddinson and Martin Guptill early in their chase on the score of 8. Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh tried to stabilise the innings with their 55-run partnership for the third wicket.
Both Finch and Marsh lost their wickets trying to keep up with the required rate. Other batters couldn’t do much as Renegades got all out for 115 handing a 34-run victory to the Sixers. Ben Dwarshuis was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his breathtaking spell of 4/17 in 4 overs.
