Former Bangalore and India skipper Virat Kohli hasn’t had a great time with the bat in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. Kohli has only muster 128 runs in the first nine games. In his last game against Gujarat, he looked like regaining his form with an inning of 58 runs. However, the inning wasn’t up to the standards of T20 cricket as his strike rate was 109.43.

Apart from this, he had scores of 40s against Punjab and Mumbai in the early part of the season. The right-hander is having the second-worst season with the bat in his cash-rich league career. In 2008, the Delhi-born player could only muster 165 runs in 13 games. Meanwhile, his former teammate in Bangalore, AB de Villers has explained how it becomes difficult for a batter to come out of a difficult phase.

De Villiers said that a batter is only one or two innings away from a bad form and it becomes difficult to bounce back if a player keeps getting low scores. “As a batsman you are only one or two bad knocks away from bad form,” said de Villiers. If it keeps coming at you it is difficult to bounce back from it,” said De Villiers as quoted by NDTV

The former South Africa skipper added that a player regaining form depends on the power of his mind. He added that a player doesn’t become a bad player overnight and Kohli would know it. The 38-year-old further added that it is important to have a positive mindset at a time like this.

“I cannot put a percentage to it but it is the mind and power of the mind which is the main battle,” he said. “You do not become a bad player overnight. Virat would know it and I know it. I think it’s the way you think and set your mind. You need a clear mind and fresh energy whenever you play and then you can find a way out of a hole,” De Villiers added.
