Virat Kohli is widely regarded as the best batter of this generation. He rose to prominence following his exceptional captaincy that led India to the summit of the U-19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 2008. Professional Career

The first major break for Virat Kohli was when he was appointed as the captain for the 2003-04 Polly Umrigar Trophy. He also played in the Vijay Merchant Trophy for the Delhi U-17 side. His List A Debut was against services in 2006 which helped him receive his U-19 call-up. In IPL, Virat Kohli has been a one-franchise player, playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inaugural edition in 2008. However, he has not yet been able to get his hands on the IPL Trophy. He has a brilliant record batting for RCB, including the iconic 2016 season that yielded him the Orange Cap and the record for the most runs scored in a single season of the IPL. (973)

Kohli made his ODI Debut against Sri Lanka in 2008. He was included in the World Cup-winning squad in 2011, where he dropped a dazzling display throughout the tournament. His Test debut came in 2011 against West Indies after debuting in the shortest format a year earlier against Zimbabwe. He served as India’s Test captain following MS Dhoni’s Test retirement in 2014. He became India’s all-format captain in 2017 and has now passed the baton to Rohit Sharma.

Records and Achievements

In 2012, 2017, and 2018, Virat Kohli received the ODI Player of the Year award. He received the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy in 2017 and 2018 given to the Best Player of the Year. He also received the Test Player of the Year award in 2018. In 2016, 2017, and 2018, he was named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World. Talking of national honours, Virat Kohli received the Padma Shri in 2017, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (previously Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award) in 2018, and the Arjuna Award in 2013.
