Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s skipper, will be absent for the T20Is versus Australia since his wife has been expecting the arrival of their third child. He is presently competing in a two-match Test series versus South Africa. Kane scored two successive centuries during the first Test, bringing his total to 31.

He has fluctuated both in and out of the squad owing to setbacks in recent years. Kane damaged his knee while playing for the Gujarat Titans during the Indian Premier League 2023. Despite returning for the ODI World Cup last year, Kane missed a few matches due to fitness issues.

New Zealand are set to host Australia for a 3-match T20I series starting on 21 February 2024. After that, a 2-match Test series will be played between the two sides. The Test series would be crucial in shaping up the World Test Championship points table.

Gary Stead also spoke about the return of Trent Boult for New Zealand. He emphasized on the fact that the pacer does not have franchise commitments and might be available for selection. He said, Trent is available if we want to select him. I am having conversations with him and hopefully we will come to a conclusion in the next couple of days.”

“We have decided to rest him” : Gary Stead on Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell will miss the second Test versus South Africa, as well as the T20I series versus Australia, due to a foot injury. He has been affected by this ailment for approximately seven months and took time off before the final T20I versus Pakistan. He hopes to be fit for the upcoming two-match Test series versus Australia.

The New Zealand Head coach said that, “He needs more time to recover and after taking medical advice, we have decided to rest him. There is hardly any long break coming up and it is the best time to give him a breather. I don’t know if this will work but we are hoping to see him in a batter shape after the break.”
