‘Utsav ki taiyaari karo’ – Fans react as former India captain MS Dhoni reaches Chennai to prepare for Indian T20 League 2023

MS Dhoni

Former India captain MS Dhoni has arrived in the city of Chennai to prepare for the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League 2023. He will attend the preparation camp organized by the franchise at The Chepauk ground from March 4.

Dhoni received a very warm welcome as the fans were eagerly waiting for their ‘Thala’ outside the airport. Coming out of the Airport, the wicketkeeper batter was welcomed by several officials and soon taken to the team hotel. Sharing his picture the franchise said, “Thala Dharisanam, finally!”. The three-time World Championship-winning skipper is set to lead the Yellow army for one more season.

Notably, before the start of the Indian T20 League 2022, the four-time champion captain had given the team’s leadership to Ravindra Jadeja. However, as the Yellow Army faltered under the star all-rounder, Dhoni was handed back the captaincy. Under Jadeja’s captaincy, the team only registered 2 wins out of 8 games during the last edition. With the four-time winners’ chances of advancing to the next round being extremely limited, Dhoni took the helm once again. They won two of their remaining six games to place ninth in the points table.

Who will lead Chennai beyond MS Dhoni?

Chennai franchise and team management will be looking to find a new captain as 41 years old will not be available for more than a couple of years. One of the biggest contenders could be England Test captain Ben Stokes.

Stokes may aid Dhoni this year since he appears to be a strong candidate to succeed the great skipper when he departs. Stokes is England’s Test captain and is also eligible to wear the captain’s hat in the T20 league. Chennai will start their campaign against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on March 31. Meanwhile, fans react as Dhoni arrives in Chennai. A Twitter user said, “Utsav ki taiyaari karo.”
