India and Gujarat Titans opening batter, Shubman Gill has made some drastic improvements in his T20 batting in the last couple of seasons. In his first four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders, his strike rate was between 115 to 125 on average. However, since joining Gujarat Titans last year, the right-hander’s strike rate jumped to 132.32 with 483 runs to his name in 16 games.

This year, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner’s strike rate has jumped to 156.93 including three hundreds. Not to forget, Gill hit his maiden T20I hundred against New Zealand early this year. The indications of his improved T20 batting were seen in that innings. Meanwhile, IPL’s defending champions, Gujarat Titans have reached the final of the ongoing 2023 edition.

Ahead of D-Day, Gill uploaded an image of him wearing the Orange Cap while having a nap by the looks of it. The fans have been divided over the matter.

I had no idea I will be wearing the Orange Cap: Shubman Gill

Meanwhile, the India opening batter had no idea that he is the Orange Cap holder even after scoring 129 off 60 balls. He hit 10 sixes and seven fours. The Fazilka-born player was dropped by Tim David at mid-on. It was a bloody blow for the five-time winners, Mumbai Indians as they were belted by Gill and the likes of Sai Sudarsan and skipper Hardik Pandya. The team reached a daunting 233/3 at the end of the innings. After the first innings, Gill said that he had no idea about winning the Orange Cap for now.

“I went to the washroom and did not know I would be wearing this [on the Orange cap]. Got a good total, hopefully we will defend this. A lot, sweat went into my eyes and I was not able to open them. We have played our best cricket when we have lost and this is one of those days,” Gill told the host broadcasters during the mid-innings break.

Notably, he will be getting the Orange Cap at the end of the tournament as their are no close contenders.
