KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, was injured in his right thigh during an IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. Rahul was helped off the ground by a team physio and a teammate. He was having difficulty walking and lay in pain on the ground for quite some time after what appeared to be a strained thigh muscle while chasing the ball racing to the boundary.

He limped with his right thigh before collapsing onto the ground. The injury occurred on the final ball of the second over, when Faf du Plessis hammered a Marcus Stoinis delivery past extra cover, and Rahul rushed to stop an apparent boundary.

The nature of the injury has still to be determined, and it remains to be seen whether the LSG captain will be able to bat when his side comes out to chase. If it is a muscle tear rather than a pull, his participation in the World Test Championship final, where he is a wicket-keeper option, may be jeopardised.

RCB get a slow start in the encounter

As for the game, Faf du Plessis returned to his captaincy duties for RCB. He won the toss and decided to bat first, which was a smart move on a slow wicket. Along with Virat Kohli, Faf put on a decent start as they added 62 runs in 9 overs. The two, however, were very slow in their approach and as a result, Virat lost his wicket.

Ravi Bishnoi bowled a slightly wide delivery, which beat the former RCB captain. Wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran was quick to collect it and stumped Virat Kohli out with his quick glove work. The Men in Red and Black managed to score 93/4 before rain interrupted the proceedings in the 16th over. Captain Du Plessis has been the only saving grace for the 2016 finalists before the rain interruption.
