IPL 2024
‘Unreal’ – Twitter stunned as Mumbai beat Chennai in a low-scoring game
Chennai are now out of the tournament, and can’t qualify for the playoffs
The 59th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Chennai and Mumbai was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Contrary to the expectations, it turned out to be a low-scoring affair. So much so, that every boundary was being cheered. Nevertheless, It was Mumbai who ended up on the winning side.
They beat Chennai by five wickets. After being asked to bat first, the Chennai-based franchise got to an absolutely horrific start. The yellow army had a batting collapse early on. Chennai lost three wickets in the first 10 balls as Mumbai’s bowlers were all over them. However, it is to be noted that Devon Conway was controversially given out, as the DRS wasn’t available during his dismissal.
Wickets kept tumbling for the defending champions as they were 32-5 in the first six overs. Daniel Sams was breathing fire as was simply sensational. He took three wickets in his full quota of four overs, while giving just 16 runs. Barring MS Dhoni, none of Chennai’s batters looked comfortable. The adverse conditions didn’t really help their cause.
The Chennai-based franchise were bundled for 97 in the first innings. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 36, and even he couldn’t reduce his side. As for the second innings, it wasn’t really a straightforward chase for Mumbai. Besides, Chennai’s new-ball bowler were right on the money. As a matter of fact, the Rohit Sharma-led side lost four wickets in their first six overs.
Mukesh Choudhary picked three wickets in his four overs, and only gave the 23 runs. Simarjeet Singh was exceptional as well. Despite picking just the one wicket, he bowled some tight line and lengths, and only gave 22 runs in his full quota of four overs. Post which, Tilak Varma and Hritik Shokeen kept their calm, and took things one at a time.
They silently went about their business, and scored a 48-run partnership. This turned out to be the difference between both sides. Varma was superb as he scored an unbeaten 34 from 32 balls, and played according to the situation. At the end, Mumbai chased their target with 31 balls to spare. Thus, Chennai are officially out of the tournament, and can’t make it to the playoffs. This is just the second time in the history of the league that the yellow army have failed to make it to the top four. As for the Mumbai-based franchise, this is their third win in 12 games. Several fans took to Twitter to discuss this game.
Today, we shall be taking a look at some of the Tweets from today’s game:

Have to applause Hrithik Shaukeen and Tilak Verrma.
These two needed to steady the ship from 33-4 and they did it brilliantly.— Alok Ranjan 🇮🇳 (@itsalokranjan) May 12, 2022

Tilak has such a high ceiling though. Going straight to the top and there's nothing that's gonna stop him from becoming an Indian legend. #CSKvMI

Never write off any cricketer, whole TL thought a player was a fraud just because he played in the BBL and couldn’t perform initially in the IPL. IPL isn’t the gold standard of cricket anyhow but glad Sams has made such a good comeback.

Can we just roll up this Wankhede pitch and take it everywhere we play?🤤 #BolwersUnion #MIvsCSK

Rohit Sharma par zyada gussa aa raha hai, a senior experienced batter should have closed this chase by staying till the end. He's equally responsible for this collapse because he was the only experienced guy in the middle and was looking really good

Tilak Varma >> any uncapped player this season……!
