The race had to be stopped as two cars crashed in the first lap itself.

Japanese GP making a comeback to Formula 1 after three years, was very highly anticipated. Since the track has been of great significance fans expected the 2022 GP to be highly entertaining as well. While the entertainment factor was certainly there, the Suzuka GP was marred by poor weather.

In just the first lap of the race, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Williams’ Alex Albon crashed out due to the slippery track. The race was red-flagged following tough racing conditions and all the cars returned to the pits. The conditions at the start were so unfavourable that drivers had called the race to be called off. Despite that, however, the FIA decided against it and allowed the race to go off on schedule.

Following the crash of two drivers, however, Lando Norris has shown outrage at the decision with an enraged tweet. His displeased tweet read, “WTF. How’s this happened!? We risk our lives, especially in conditions like this. We wanna race. But this… Unacceptable.”

Lando Norris, who drives for the McLaren Racing team in Formula 1 was pointing to the death of F2 driver Anthoine Hubert who crashed and died as a result of an injury at the Spa circuit in 2019.

Most, not in favour of the race

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was also in favour of calling off the race and said, “It’s totally unacceptable, we lost Jules Bianchi here, what was it, five or six years ago? That should never ever happen.”

Alex Albon crashed out in the first lap itself and showed dismay at FIA’s decision. The Williams’ driver said,  “We could only see maybe 10 metres in front of us at the very most. The cars at the back, we were kind of doing pinball just because we couldn’t see the track edge, so we were just going left to right down the straight not knowing where the track was. That was what happened to me, I couldn’t see where I was on track and I touched with another car, which of course I didn’t see.”

The race was allowed to be restarted again and Max Verstappen came up with an industrious win edging closer to a win. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came second, keeping his hopes still alive for a win. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez completed the pole.

Following Vertsppen’s win at the Japanese GP, the Belgian- Dutch driver has amassed 366 points and has been adjedjed the Driver’s Champion for the 2022 season.
