UC Berkeley set to launch new course on how to ‘Git Gud’ at fighting games
University of California has announced a special class to teach the basics of fighting games in classes.
University of California, Berkeley has now announced a special class that will teach students the basics of fighting games. The class is intended for beginners and will only be available to its students.
“The goal of this class is to help bring beginners to a mid-level of play with guided assistance to offer the smoothest introduction to the world of fighting games. It is geared towards people with less than 100 hours in the genre,” says the official description.
Along with improving the game, it will also introduce students to modern Japanese culture. In a sense, the university is killing two birds with one stone. Classes will be in person every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 PM to 6:30 PM.
Right on time for new fighting game releases
The course comes right before the release of Tekken 8 which is one of the biggest esports titles in the industry. Tekken 8 is set to launch on January 26 which is also the last date to register for the course.
Street Fighter 6, another fighting game that was released last year, have also announced a new DLC character. While the game is a bit old, it is still as popular as Tekken and is also the latest instalment in the series. SF6 also won the Best Fighting Game award last year at the Game Awards.
The upcoming character for SF6 is Ed, who is a returning character from SF5 DLC. Ed is coming next month, however, there is no fixed date yet. Other games like Mortal Combat1, Guilty Gear, and King of Fighters are also very popular games. Do note that the course is aimed to bring students to mid-level. To improve more, they have to practice by themselves.
